Sandstone is not one material. Colour, grain size, bedding, porosity, strength and weathering vary by quarry and bed. The required carving and setting decide which characteristics matter.

Where sandstone works well
Stonegraph uses sandstone for warm relief murals, botanical panels, mandir and sacred work, jali, gate pillars, planters, parasol bases and architectural ornament. Its granular surface can hold a strong hand-finished texture and reads naturally in gardens, courtyards and Rajasthan-inspired architecture.
Fine open lattice, exposed projections and deep undercuts need careful stone selection and sufficient section. A beautiful colour is not enough if the selected bed cannot safely carry the design.
Bedding, finish and weathering
The orientation of natural bedding affects how a piece should be cut and used. Exterior work also requires attention to water paths, top surfaces, salts, freeze-thaw conditions where relevant, fixings and maintenance. Those decisions belong in the architectural detail, not only in the carving model.
Finish can range from crisply tooled to softly hand-worked. Samples help establish how the selected stone, relief and surface look in the project's actual light before a larger package is produced.

A quotation needs drawings or references, dimensions, quantity, intended quarry or colour if specified, exposure, finish and delivery location. Stonegraph advises whether the desired detail is sensible in the proposed material.
Work is inspected, dry-assembled where relevant, numbered and packed to its form. International delivery uses reinforced crates and setting-out information for installation by the client's contractor.

- Many sandstones carve well, but grain, bedding and strength differ. Detail must be sized for the selected stone and exposure rather than assumed from colour alone.
- 02Can sandstone carving be used outdoors?
- Yes, with a suitable stone and correct architectural detailing for bedding, drainage, fixings, exposed edges and the local climate.
- 03Can Stonegraph match an existing sandstone?
- Usually a sample, quarry name or clear photographs are needed. Natural variation remains, so larger projects should approve a representative range rather than a single perfect piece.
- 04Does Stonegraph export sandstone carving?
- Yes. Pieces can be numbered and packed in reinforced export crates with setting-out information for local installation.
